Football is driven by cash

June 28, 2010

Much has been made of the loss yesterday to Germany by the England team and their swift exit from the FIFA World Cup.
The fact is Germany was, and is, a better team.
England is a mediocre team which was lucky to get through to where they did.
We should just accept that money and celebrity drives football, mainly now money.
So let’s just accept it!

Football Fickleness 2

June 27, 2010

Another bit of Football Fickleness reared it’s head today following the deserved bashing of the England team at South Africa’s FIFA World Cup.
On Wednesday one of our national treasures who is a soccer pundit said something like ‘the England team is now in gear and there’s a real hope now of winning the World Cup’.
That same soccer pundit today said something like ‘I knew they just did not have it in them. They were just not on form’.
How time distorts what one thinks and says!

Eurovision madness

May 29, 2010

I do believe that one of the best songs won Eurovision this evening, but I also can’t believe that Iceland had such few votes and the UK came bottom.

In my opinion Iceland had a terrific song, possible, next to germany, the best of the evening.

The UK had a crap song, but certainly not the worst of the evening.  Why we get old codgers who have had significant success in the past to write today’s entries to this contest is beyond me.

Maybe Iceland received less votes due to the crisis the Country has caused in both the world financial markets and the world airline marketplace.  A shame, but in some ways sadly understood.

The UK received the least votes as that is what the rest of Europe thinks of us.  Sad, but true.
