When journalists think they know best

May 13, 2010

All news channels and newspapers have started – just as expected.
How long can this last? When will a new election be? Do they like each other? How can this possibly work?
I believe that we live in a world today with far too much comment and far too few facts. The definition of news is about reporting facts, not making judgement calls (which is comment) so why are so many news avenues already saying our new UK government can’t last?
Because our news is largely driven by profit and not fact.
This evening’s edition of Have I Got News For You had many comments from panelist Chris Addison deriding journalists (Julia Hartley-Brewer of the Daily Express was on the panel)and their actions – it’s a shame we don’t see more of this!

Great Britains!

May 12, 2010

Maybe it was destiney that Nick Clegg would be second in command, in name at least, to David Cameron. Alphabetically he already is in both firstname and surname anyway.
They got to work today showing themselves side by side like a good, forward-looking, newly married couple, if, that is, they were gay and had just had a civil partnership union, but is this just eactly what has happened?
Of course I am talking about the civil partnership union bit here! They are being civil, they are a partnership, and they have a union.
Yes, there will be difficulties, yes there may be fall-outs, and yes there may be the love-in ‘making-up’ moments, but the fact is we do have a new government, and a different approach.
Let’s just hope they are given a chance to make it work!

My new best friend!

May 8, 2010

It looks as though Nick Clegg and David Cameron could become each other’s NBF, or new best friend.  They are each cosying up to each other with chats, discussions, and political shenanigans.

Gordon Brown, rightly, is acting like the schoolboy alone in the playground and is saying that he would be happy to talk to either party.

As Gordon now knows, he also needs a new best friend!

When closing time’s not real

May 6, 2010

All the channels are talking of the ‘scandal’ of polling stations closing their doors at 10pm while there was a queue of people outside waiting to vote – I say hard luck!!
Doors have been open from 7am to 10pm and, if people cannot get their arses into gear over some 15 hours to vote then they must be stupid enough that they should not vote!!
The ‘scandal’ also being talked of is that sopme stations did NOT close their doors at 10pm.
You can’t have it both ways!!

How did I vote!

May 6, 2010

I have already said, as I am a postal voter, and I have voted Conservative.

Exit polls show a hung parliament.

The morning will bring what the morning will bring…

How would I vote? Day 30

May 5, 2010

A new poll is out and on this, the final day of the electoral campaign, it appears that Conservatives are ahead, then Lib Dems and then close behind Labour.
Each of the party leaders have given their last speeches, and tomorrow we will see them come out to vote
I wonder whether we will have a major turnout.
I hope so.
And I hope it is a Conservative government or a Conservative/Lib Dem coalition. I have had enough of Labour.
My vote today, and my vote tomorrow, is Conservative.
The final count…
Labour 0, Conservative 20, Lib Dem 10.

The ongoing issue is we have to change our democracy to proportional representation – if the Lib Dems comes second and Labour third, which I hope happens, how is it that Labour would get more seats?

How would I vote? Day 29

May 4, 2010

I am sorry, I am just bored with it all now.

My vote is Conservative – and no one has done anything of real revelation or interest today.

All they say is a repeat, and all Gordon Brown can do is say how badly the Lib dems and the Conservatives will be.  I wish he’d look back at Labour’s own record which started with 4 very good years for the country, which was obviously going to happen following the way the Tories left the country, and then boom became bust as it always does under a Labour government – but he won’t have any of it.

As a person I feel sorry for Gordon Brown as I do believe that he believes he is doing the best for the country.  My ownly issue is it is Gordon brown’s personal best, and many others, including both David Cameron and Nick Clegg, can now do it much better.

Clearly Tony Blair was right to jump ship when he did – he knew the storm was about to hit and wanted someone else to take the helm, and go down with the ship, or in our case, country!

My vote today, as I say above, is Conservative.

Count to date…

Labour 0, Conservative 19, Lib Dem 10.

How would I vote? Day 28

May 3, 2010

Well, the pace is hotting up and my interest is fatigued. Isn’t everyone’s, even those figting to stay in or gain UK governmental power?
Yes, everyone in the three main parties are yet again picking up the pace, in Gordon Brown’s case even taking to a helicopter to get him from A to B to C to…
Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg have been targeting key seats and the millions of people they say have not yet decided how to vote.
While Gordon Brown said he would fight ‘every inch’, David Cameron said his party will campaign through the night on Tuesday, while Nick Clegg told supporters “the sky’s the limit” and that they had “three days to change Britain”.
Clearly the media is kicking up all the frenzy – next time I just hope that politician’s will take lie-detector tests so that we can see who is telling the truth or, more likely, how much they are all lieing.
My vote is defaulted again…
Count to date…
Labour 0, Conservatives 18, Lib Dem 10.

How would I vote? Day 27

May 2, 2010

Everyone is upping their game, with some winners and some winning not so much. The Conservatives and Lib Dems are in the lead and for no other reason today than my default position, my vote goes Conservative.
Count to date…
Labour 0, Conservative 17, Lib Dem 10.

How would I vote? Day 26

May 1, 2010

Each leader, in this final weekend of campaiging, was seriously heckled today.
Gordon Brown was heckled inside at is own rally and the heckler was uncermoniously ‘expelled’ from the meeting, with the local Labour candidate’s mother saying she was going to deck him out cold!
Nick Clegg was heckled outside a rally at a pub, but got the better of the heckler and carried on.
David Cameron was heckled outside a doctors’ sugery where he was going to be giving a Q&A session – his heckler was members of the BNP, including their leader Nick Griffin!
For me Lib Dem and Conservative were on a par today, though I believe, apart from their shadown Chancellor’s, I trust the policies and abilities of the Conservatives more so my vote, yet again today, is Conservative!
Count to date…
Labour 0, Conservative 16, Lib Dem 10.
